July 31, 2008
Dear STCA Membership,
I would like to take this opportunity to share with you the excitement I have for working for The STCA in the capacity of AKC delegate. In this role I am empowered to represent the wishes and opinions of our club to the AKC. Having attended the parent club conference in Georgia in July of 2007 as an invited speaker (BSL panel), I was able to observe just how much the AKC does and can do for their clubs. They (staff and directors) were all very approachable and open minded throughout the weekend. With this knowledge, I am confidant that my relationship and effectiveness between the STCA and the AKC will meet your expectations. I work for the club and will represent the directives provided to me by the board. This does not mean in any way that you should not contact me with your ideas and opinions. I will use your input to shape my suggestions to the board. Remember as well to contact the board directly if there are issues you have strong feelings about. Without hearing from you, we cannot represent your collective wishes. I am available to you by e-mail (delegate@amstaff.org) and phone (508)-843-6358. Please use the delegate's section of the STCA web site to keep abreast of what we are involved with. I will post the AKC official meeting minutes once they are published. I will also add my personal comments and interactions from each meeting. My first meeting will be September 8th and 9th in Newark, NJ. The official meeting is always the second day. The first day has no role call and consists of break out meetings of the standing committees. I believe they do half in the AM and half in the PM. Delegates are free to attend any of these. One of the agenda items for this meeting is for the delegate body to vote on standing committee vacancies. I asked the STCA board to choose the committee (list is on the web site) they wanted me to try and get on (you can only be a member of one) so that I could fill out the self-nomination papers. In general delegates with 3 or more years of tenure fill positions but I figured I might as well give it a try. You can read my letter for nomination to the health committee on the web site. I also posted to the web site my credentials, which I provided to the board when they were considering my appointment.
I look forward to working for you,
Holly S. Stump
