***UPDATE: 2008 National Specialty Sweeps Judge Change***

Dear STCA Membership:

Our scheduled sweepstakes judge has had a personal issue come up, and will be unable to judge for us at this years National. A good friend to our breed, Mr. Rade Dakic Kica (Serbia) will now be judging the National Sweepstakes classes in her stead (pending AKC Approval). A Special Thank you goes out to Kica for stepping up to help with such short notice.

***UPDATE: 2008 National Specialty Judge Change***

Dear STCA Membership:

Please be advised that as of August 20th, we have an OFFICIAL change of judges.

Please also be advised that this change was not due to any decision made by the STCA Board, but one made by an unfortunate turn of events.

The judge we were to have, Mrs. Michelle Billings, did not notice our change in dates when we moved our National plans from Arizona to St. Louis, MO when she was notified by letter dated March 31, 2008. It wasn't until July 18th, 2008 that Mrs. Billings noticed the change in dates, realized that there was a conflict, and notified the STCA.

As Show Chairman, I contacted Judges Operations as well as Event Plans at our parent organization, The American Kennel Club. After finding out the proper procedure to apply for a change in judges, I then contacted the STCA Board of Directors. The board advised me that Mr. Ken McDermott was the judge with the second highest amount of member votes. Subsequently I contacted Mr McDermott and he informed me that he was able to take on the judging assignment. From our initial notification by Mrs. Billings to Mr. McDermott's acceptance took well over 2 weeks time. After securing our new judge in the proper manner with a written contract, I then filed the paperwork requesting the change with the AKC per their procedures.

I received the approval to change our 2008 STCA National Specialty Judge from Mrs. Michelle Billings to Mr. Ken McDermott from the AKC on August 25th, 2008 with an official approval date of August 20th, 2008.

Please come out and support your National Club. There are still committee positions that need filling, as well as trophy donations still available. The deadline for advertising in the National catalog is September 1st. Please make sure to contact Jaime Nuckles at jaime@nucks-amstaffs.com regarding your ads.

Dear Fellow Am Staff Enthusiast:

In October of this year the Staffordshire Terrier club of America will be celebrating its 72nd year as a club by once again holding it's National Specialty at the wonderful Purina Farms in Gray Summit, MO. We are striving to make this year's event, "One to Remember". Am Staff lovers from all over the world will once again descend upon the good folks of Missouri. We will be hosting a variety of events including competitions in Conformation, Obedience, Rally, Agility, and Junior Showmanship. We will be having a Regional Specialty along with our National, hosted by the Kentucky Am Staff club; Proceeds from the Regional event will benefit the legislative efforts facing Louisville. We are currently in the planning stages for additional fun and educational stuff along the way.

We would love to include you as part of our weeklong celebration of this wonderful breed! Please consider becoming one of our trophy sponsors, or placing an ad in our keepsake catalog. All trophy donors receive their names listed in the catalog, and Am Staff people worldwide can refer to these advertisements for years to come!

A National Specialty is not an event to be taken lightly, and a tremendous amount of planning and man-hours goes into each year's event. We are always looking for willing and able hands to assist in tasks that range from the tedious to the strenuous. If you are one of the willing and the brave, please step up and be counted upon! You can do so by contacting myself, or any of the other various committee heads and donate your time. If you don't have any time, monetary donations will do just fine; monetary donations can be utilized just about everywhere!

Below is a list of committees we have thus far. Please feel free to contact any of the committee chairs if you have any areas of expertise or would like to learn any of the unique facets that go into each and every National event.
